Lampronia luzella

L. luzella (Hübner)

Adult Characteristics

Depicted in Heath & Pelham-Clinton (1976). Wingspan 11-13 mm. Forewing dark purplish fuscous, with 3-4 cream white spots: 1 or 2 on costa, and 2 on hand margin. Hindwings dark gray, sometimes with purplish tinge.

Comparison with similar species

L. capitella and Incurvaria oehlmanniella are superficially similar, but differ in having two inner spots fused to a band.

Host, oviposition, and larval feeding habits

While a motley collection of food substrates have been proposed without solid evidence (Heath & Pelham-Clinton 1976), the only reliable source states that the species feeds on Rubus chamaemorus, Rubus idaea, and other Rubus species (Svensson 1993).

Geographic distribution

Scattered throughout the British isles, northern and central Europe and Fennoscandia, to westernmost Russia.

Habitat

In forested habitats with Rubus idaea and R. caesius, and peat bogs with Rubus chamaemorus.
